Funeral services for Ernest Clifton Reed will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Christian Church with Pastor David Mondle officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #42. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Mr. Reed, age 92, of Gillette, Wyoming died on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Mountain View Living in Sheridan, Wyoming of natural causes. Ernie Reed was born on May 28, 1919 in Gillette, Wyoming the son of John and Mary (Houser) Reed. He was raised and educated in Gillette. While serving in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was well decorated including 2 purple hearts and a silver star. Upon his honorable discharge he went back to work as a carpenter. Ernie married Mary B. Marvel on November 20, 1946, to this union they had four children. He enjoyed keeping active by bowling and horseback riding. Ernie also enjoyed a good book. He was an active member of the VFW, American Legion, National Rifle Association and the DAV. Ernie was an elder for more than thirty years at the Christian Church. Ernie is survived by his children: Lewis (Linda) Reed of Mesa, Arizona, Alberta (Jim) Bowden of Rozet, Wyoming, Barbara (Steve) Gonzalez and Gwen Reed all of Gillette, Wyoming; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers, Jack and Francis Reed. Memorials are suggested to help fund a scholarship for education at a Christian school of their choice.
