Funeral service for Marvin Phoenix, of Gillette will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2011at the Gillette Memorial Chapel. A gathering of friends and family will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Gillette Memorial Chapel. Mr. Phoenix, age 63, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Advance Care Hospital in Billings, MT after an extended illness. Marvin Wayne Phoenix, was born January 5, 1948, in Newcastle, Wyoming, the son of Arthur "Stub" and Edna (Poppleton) Phoenix. He was raised and educated in Newcastle. Upon his schooling he married Diane Walter on October 24, 1966 in Newcastle. The couple resided in Newcastle and Greely, Colorado briefly before making their home in Gillette in 1967. Here Marvin worked in the oilfield for many years. He then managed the Eagles Lodge for several years. Marvin had quite the talent for cooking and baking. He shared this gift by cooking at various restaurants throughout his life. Due to Marvin's health he entered into an early retirement, but he continued to bake pies to keep himself busy. He enjoyed hunting fishing being in the mountains, playing bingo and singing karaoke. Marvin is survived by 4 children: Debbie Kendrick, Kenny Phoenix, Leitha Sowder and her husband Gene, and Bettina Power and her husband Daniel all of Gillette, Wyoming; brother, Gary Phoenix and his wife Paula of Buffalo; sister, Bonnie Christiensen and her husband Steve of Hurricane, Utah; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
