Funeral services for Jack Goostree will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Antelope Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Largent of Faith Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #42 and the VFW. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel.Mr. Goostree, age 78, of Gillette, Wyoming went to meet his personal Lord and Savior on Monday, April 18, 2011. He passed away at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette.Jack Eugene Goostree was born on January 24, 1933 the son of Byron and Helen (Bryant) Goostree in Iuka, Illinois. He was raised and educated in Salem, Illinois, graduating from Salem High School. Upon his graduation he moved to Colorado to begin his lifelong career in the oilfield. Jack took time out of his career and answered the call to serve our country in 1953. He enlisted in the Army, serving in Korea with the 92nd AFA BN Red Devils. Jack married Sara Marie Holbrook on January 23, 1958. After his honorable discharge in 1961, Jack returned to Sterling, Colorado where he continued his career in the oilfield and was awarded a foreman position at the age of 32. His career required him to reside in different states including Colorado, Texas and Wyoming. He retired from Amoco in 1984. Jack and Sara moved to Gillette, Wyoming in the early 90's to enjoy retirement and be close to family. Jack loved to visit and take food to the sick. Making soup, bread and brownies was one of Jack's favorite ministries. Jack was known for his selfless giving and his sense of humor. He also enjoyed going to garage sales and was a member of the VFW, as well as an active member of Faith Community Baptist Church and the morning coffee group at the Cafe Southview. His love of the Lord and daily Christian walk had an impact on all who knew him. Jack will be missed by all of his family and friends.Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sara of Gillette, Wyoming; son, Gary "Goose" Goostree of Gillette, Wyoming; daughter Cindy (David) Lane of Westlake Village, California; brother Ellis (Kathrine) Goostree of Salem, Illinois; six grandchildren: Jordan, Jillian, Jacqueline and Jackson Lane all of Westlake, California, Garrett and Jack Goostree both of Gillette, Wyoming.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Melba Jean Wheeler.Memorials in Jacks name are suggested to benefit the Faith Community Chapel.
