Funeral services for Anthony Black will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Doug Rumsey of Antelope Valley Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2011 at Cortez Cemetery in Cortez, Colorado.Tony Black, age 75, of Gillette, Wyoming died on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital due to complications of diabetes.Anthony Richard Black was born on June 14, 1935, in Oakman, Georgia the son of Hudon and Nettie Mae (Gibson) Black of Nashville, Georgia. He joined the Army in 1952, at the age of 17. Tony served three years in Korea and was offered a rank as Master Sergeant to stay but he declined. Tony came home to Alamosa, Colorado and took a road construction job out of Pueblo, Colorado with Graham Construction. While working on a road he met and married Iva Mae Hatch of Cortez, Colorado in September of 1957. The couple moved to Gillette, Wyoming in 1968. He was a welder for Exeter Drilling and Exploration Company and worked as a welder for the oil field until he built his own shop Welding Inc. on Donkey Creek in 1974. Upon selling to EMS and moved his new shop across from Albertsons. Tony loved his work and excelled at it, retiring in 1995. He was well known and respected by many. Tony loved his work and was a very hard worker and was always ready and willing to teach others what he knew. He was a loving husband, a great father, a sweet grandfather and a terrific friend. Tony enjoyed trapshooting and loved working with his hands, there was nothing that he couldn't build. He loved spoiling his grandchildren most of all. Tony was a very good man, he was one in a million.Tony is survived by his wife, Iva Black of Gillette, Wyoming; daughter, Leigh Ann Black; sons: Brian (Sharon) Black and Kurt (Bridgette) Black all of Gillette, Wyoming; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; sister, Barbara (Grady) Reagan of McDonough, Georgia and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, son Darrol Black, daughter Sonya Black, sister Joyce Ray; brother Hudon Black Jr. and nephew Mark Anthony Black.Donations are suggested to benefit the Salvation Army of Gillette.
