A private memorial service for Salvador "Sal" Martinez Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2011 at Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, WY with Father Tim Martinson of St. Matthew's Catholic Church officiating. There will be a public visitation from 4:00-7:00pm Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Walker Funeral Home. Sal Martinez Jr., age 49, of Gillette Wyoming died at his home Sunday, March 20, 2011 from accidental asphyxiation.Sal was born July 13, 1961 in Kimball, Nebraska the son of Salvador Sr. and Josephine(Diaz) Martinez. The family moved to Gillette in the summer of 1968 where Sal began second grade. He graduated from Campbell County High School in 1979. From childhood to the present he enjoyed playing sports as well as watching them. In his youth Sal played Little League, Babe Ruth, and American Legion Baseball. As an adult he played Softball. His favorite professional teams to watch were the Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Lakers. Sal was also always planning family trips to Denver to attend Denver Bronco games, Colorado Rockies' games and Denver Nuggets' games. He especially enjoyed watching his daughter, nieces and nephews as they participated in various sporting activities. Sal spent most of his adult life working in the oil fields where he met many of his closest friends. He worked hard and always put his all into everything he did. Sal considered everyone he met a friend and was loved by many. Sal is survived by his daughter Haleigh Martinez of Gillette, Wyoming; sisters: Betty Martinez of Gillette, Wyoming; Mary (Wayne)Boom of Story, Wyoming; Jane (Bill) Fitch of Gillette, Wyoming; and brother: Robert "Bob" Martinez of Gillette, He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother RichardIn lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Sal's name.
