A memorial service for Robert Laughlin will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming. A gathering of family and friends will be held, Friday, February 25, 2011 from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral HomeRobert Duane Laughlin, 72, was called to our Lord late Friday night February 18th, at the Wyoming Medical Center of Casper following a courageous battle with cancer. Formally called Robert, and socially known as Bob, those who knew him best simply called him Grandpa. Robert enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, whether it was carpentry, construction work, or fishing with his friends and family. Wherever Robert went, he always found something to repair, improve, or build. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.Robert was born August 18th, 1939, in Wilton, North Dakota, to Michael and Olga (Sawicki) Laughlin. He was baptized in the Lutheran Missouri Synod faith and graduated from Wilton High School in 1958. In 1962, He wed Sonja Sue Stern, and their holy matrimony was blessed with three children. Robert worked construction in Bismarck before transferring to Gillette in 1982. Where he worked for Larry's Construction for thirteen years followed by Michael's Construction for fifteen years. All three of his children attended Campbell County High School. During those years Robert served as baseball coach, Boy Scout master, ring master at the local roller skating rink, and he enjoyed attending his familys sports and activities. Robert retired from the construction industry in 2009.He is survived by his mother; his wife of 47 years; brother, William Chuck Laughlin; sister, Norma (Jeff) Hochhalter; brother, Rodney (Rose) Laughlin; daughters, Tammy (Mark) Tromble and Belinda (Steve) Howery; son, Michael Mike Laughlin; grandchildren; Amber, Gabi, Issi, Austin, Lexi, Peyton and Ashlyn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; nephew, Shane Laughlin; sister-in-law, Cecelia "Sue" Laughlin; and sister, Gail Sorch. In lieu of flowers, memorials and condolences may be sent in Robert's name to Walker Funeral Home 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY.
