Deon Crookston

Deon Crookston age 82, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away January 16, 2011 at Close to Home Hospice House in Gillette. Upon her request cremation has taken place and a memorial service with scattering will be held this summer in Rock Springs.Deon was born July 25, 1928 to S.H. "Speed" and Hazel (Bullard) Palmer in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated in 1946 from Superior High School, Superior, Wyoming. Deon married John "Jack" Crookston in 1949 and they lived in Rock Springs, WY for forty years until Jack's death in 1989. Deon continued to live there until moving to Gillette in 1996 to be closer to her family. She was employed as a office manager for Union Mercantile, before going to work for Western Wyoming Beverage retiring in 1994. Deon also was a Pampered Chef Representative. She was a volunteer at the Sweetwater County Hospital and a 4-H leader for many years. Deon was also active in Our Lady of Sorrows Home and School Association, and served as President of Credit Women's International for 3 years.Deon was a baseball and hockey grandma, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a big part of her life. She also enjoyed cooking, knitting and traveling over the years.Deon is survived by her two daughters, Sally (Crookston) Parkin of Gillette, WY; Pat (Mike) Laveway of Libby, MT; grandchildren, Ian and Michelle Laveway of Libby MT; Alex (Sarah) Parkin and J.C. Parkin and Laney Spellman of Gillette, WY; great grandchildren, Jared, Gabe & Karma Laveway all of Libby MT; Harmony and Bradley Parkin of Gillette, WY; sister-in-law, Pat Ruffini of Rock Springs, WY; niece, Lil Ruffini Edd and nephew, Roy Ruffini both of Rock Springs, WY;She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her parents; son-in-law, Bob Parkin; brother-in-law, Louis Ruffini; and sister Betty Melon.Memorials are suggested to benefit Close to Home Hospice Hospitality House in Gillette, WY.
