Funeral service for Harry Gentry will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at the Central Baptist Church in Gillette, Wyoming, with Pastor Scott Clem officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post # 42. Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, from 4-7 p.m. at the Gillette Memorial Chapel.Harry Clyde Gentry, 72, of Rapid City, S.D. formerly of Gillette, WY passed away Friday, December 31, 2010 at Fort Meade, S.D. following an extended illness. Harry was born June 1, 1938 in Wewoka, OK. In his youth, his family traveled around the south as his father was employed in the oil industry.Harry graduated from high school in 1958 from Worland, WY, and his family moved to Gillette in 1959. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley G. Harmon on August 6, 1961. Harry served two and a half years of active duty service as a mechanic in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he moved his family back to Gillette, WY.Harry built his career in the oil industry, starting as a roughneck and working his way up to a drilling consultant. He retired in 1998.Harry was a very proud and honorable Englishman who enjoyed spending time with family and close friends camping in the mountains, as well as, fishing and motorcycling of which he was an honorary member of the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club.One of his hobbies included building and flying model airplanes, and he was an honorary lifetime member of the Sage Hoppers Airplane club of Gillette.Harry is survived by his wife, Shirley Gentry of Rapid City, Daughter Sherry (Scott) Buck of Rapid City, six grandsons- Jason Kettrey of Gillette, Ryan (Shadiron) Kettrey of Gillette, Bobby Kettrey of Gillette, Scott Kettrey of Rapid City, a great-grandson Keaton, and many nieces and nephews.Harry is preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Ray, parents Harry P. and Ethel May, two brothers, Calvin "J.R." and Cameron "C.J.", and a sister Opal Freeman.Memorials and condolences can be sent in Harry's name in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 W. 5th St., Gillette, WY 82716 or condolences can be sent via our website at www.gillettememorialchapel.com.Funeral Home:Gillette Memorial Chapel210 West Fifth Street Gillette, WYUS 82716
