Burial for LaVon V. (Fairley) Kemper will be at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. LaVon passed into the presence of her Savior at 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 27, 2010 at Close To Home Hospice Hospitality House in Gillette, Wyoming. LaVon was born April 15, 1918 near Fairbury, Nebraska. She attended schools in Cheyenne, Wyoming and North Platte, Nebraska. she earned her bachelor of Science and Masters degrees from the University of Nebraska. LaVon taught in Nebraska towns of Amelia, Decatur, Lodgepole and North Platte. In the North Platte School she was the principal. LaVon also taught in Panama Canal Zone, Burlington and Denver, Colorado. She was a traveling instructor for the University of Nebraska. LaVon retired after 29 years of teaching, many of them in Denver, Colorado. As a young girl she was a volunteer nurse's aide and was part of the founding of the North Platte Canteen. This was a group of people from several towns around North Platte that met the trains with the World War II military troops and served them, fruit, sandwiches and cake or cookies. LaVon married Willard E. Kemper on May 24, 1950 in Bridgeport, Nebraska. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Denver, later she participated in New Life Wesleyan Church activities in Gillette. LaVon enjoyed the Senior Center friends. Her interests were reading, letter writing, camping and traveling. Her traveling included all 50 states, South America, Africa, Europe Holy Land twice and a trip around the world. LaVon loved sharing with everyone about her travels and sights and to share how much her Lord and Savior meant to her. She resided at the Beehive Home. LaVon is survived by her son, Lawrence (Karen) Kemper who is with BNSF in Gillette, Wyoming; her brother, Carol (Mary) Fairley of North Platte, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
