Mary Lucille Garner, 81, passed away in her sleep on Monday October 25, 2010 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette, WY. At her request no service will be held. She had requested cremation with inurnment in Louisiana at a later date. Mary Lucille Garner was born to Edward Franklin ONeal and Eddie Belle Moore ONeal on April 4, 1929 in Shreveport, Louisiana. After her parents divorced, she was raised by her mother and step-father, Roland R. Portis. He was a guiding, loving man whom she referred to as my daddy. She was raised and educated in the Shreveport area. Lucille graduated from Byrd High School and attended nursing school at Highland Hospital and Clinic in Shreveport. In her nursing career, she was a devoted, caring private duty nurse who specialized in treating burn patients. She married James Ebin Jimmy Garner in Hainesville, Louisiana in June 1951. Two children were born to this union, Lalia Jane Garner (Jagers) and James Reed Garner. Jimmy passed away in 1980 and Lucille came to live with her daughter in 1992. Lucille was active in Toastmasters, New Life Wesleyan Church and Camplex volunteers after her arrival in Gillette. She took great pleasure in being a greeter at Walmart for a short period of time. Lucille is survived by her daughter, Lalia Garner Jagers (Cecil) of Gillette,WY, grandson, Justin Jagers of Billings, MT, granddaughter, Brandy Jagers Degenhart of Colorado Springs, CO and 2 great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert Franklin ONeal, her husband and her son, James Reed.
