On December 12, 1977, Michael Brian Swenson was born to the late Brian Harold Swenson and Vicki Lynn (Wicker) Swenson in Riverton, Wy. Michael was proud of both his Wyoming roots and Scandinavian heritage. On June 5, 2010, Michael went to be with the Lord due to an apparent heart attack. Michael graduated from Campbell County High School in 1996. He earned a B.S. in Social Science from the University of Wyoming. He also did post graduate work at BHSU and was currently in the process of pursuing a Masters in Environmental Education. Michael was an avid baseball player from the early grades through high school. He was a member of the 1996 Wyoming State Champion Babe Ruth team. Michael was an enthusiastic professional sports fan. His teams were without a doubt the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins but he always showed great interest in his friends teams. Michael had a deep love and great knowledge of music of many genres. He had a personal connection with the out of doors. Recently, Michael and an enthusiastic group of friends began building an authentic 10 x 15 pioneer cabin on Michaels land near Arvada, WY. It has been a dream of Michaels to build on the land. Michael was an extremely devoted and loving son. He loved being with and helping his friends who say that Michael exemplified the qualities of integrity, honesty, kindness, loyalty, compassion, selflessness and humility and of being forth right and easy-going. Michaels generosity and thoughtfulness were remarkable: he could always be counted on to share his time, talents, or whatever anyone needed. Michael was the peacemaker and always forgiving. Friends described Michaels amazing sense of humor from funny to hilarious to heavy. He will also be remembered for his intelligence, knowledge and being well informed. Michaels friends describe him as inviting and that any time spent with him was always meaningful. Michael made a profound impact on all he called friend and to many he was truly a brother. Swenson will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by anyone who was fortunate enough to have walked along side him. Michael is survived by his mom (Vic), his life-long extended family, dozens of special friends, three aunts, three uncles, and several cousins. A Celebration of Michaels life will be held at 5:30 PM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Gillette on this Friday, June 11th. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Michaels name. Contributions will be used to provide Environmental Education opportunities as well as assist youth in realizing their athletic and/or educational dreams. Memorials may be sent in care of Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette WY 82716 or to American National Bank, 800 East Seventh Street, Gillette, WY 82716.
