Funeral service for Evonna Kay Schelling will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Moorcroft Elementary School, Moorcroft Wyoming with Pastor Guille Seigler of the First Southern Baptist Church as officiant. A luncheon will follow at the First Southern Baptist Church. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Moorcroft, Wyoming. Evonna Kay Schelling, 51, passed away at her home in Moorcroft, Wyoming on Monday, May 31, 2010. Evonna was born on April 5, 1959, to Kenneth and Fern (Cordingly) Blakeman in Sturgis, South Dakota. Evonna attended Moorcroft Elementary School and graduated from Moorcroft High School in 1977. She attended college in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. As a life-long learner, Evonna continued taking college courses throughout her adult years through Eastern Wyoming College and Gillette College. Evonna married Gary Blake Schelling on July 22, 1981. Together they had five children and ten grandchildren. She loved most spending time with her family. Evonna enjoyed working in and out of her home. Over the years, she worked as a bookkeeper for many companies, including Blakeman Propane, Diamond Classic Futurity, and many local oilfield services. For a time, Evonna preplanned funerals for Gillette Memorial Chapel. She also wrote articles for the Moorcroft Leader and The Sundance Times, winning two awards from the Wyoming Press Association for her articles. The first was in 2000, the Honorable Mention for Pacesetter Award for "A Huge Milestone for a Little Girl" and the second story in 2002 for "Very Alive". The job Evonna enjoyed most was being a preschool teacher for several years at Moorcroft Christian School. Evonnas walk with the Lord was central to her life. During her final 5 years, she attended church in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, usually with a grandchild on her lap. She was a member, teacher, and treasurer at several other local churches. She grew up attending Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. As a young adult, she attended First Baptist Church. She next spent many years at First Southern Baptist Church, followed by several years at Cornerstone Ministries Church. In her spare time, Evonna enjoyed scrapbooking and writing family stories. She loved traveling and had been to nearly every state in the country and to Canada and England. She also devoted many hours to American Cancer Societys Relay for Life in Crook County. Evonna loved to make a party out of everyday life. She enjoyed planning reunions and get-togethers. She often had a house full of grandchildren for baking, crafts, sleepovers and cousins camps. Her grandchildren were the greatest joys in her life. She is survived by her husband, Gary; daughter Andrea Mills and son-in-law, Tom, of Moorcroft; son Ryan Schelling of Moorcroft; daughter Ami Hanson and son-in-law, Tristan, of Gillette; daughter Bethany Schelling of Gillette; daughter Laura Schelling of Moorcroft; grandchildren Thomas, Asher, Judah, Justus and Eden Mills, Maria, Rebecca and Titus Schelling, Aubrey Schelling and Camden Hanson; mother, Fern; four brothers, Randy, Steve, Ken and Kevin; sister, Mona Gill; and many loved in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father Kenneth, her grandparents, and niece Heather.
