Memorial service for Garth Olmstead will be at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Allen St. Gillette, Wyoming with Bishop Tracy Breinholt officiating. Garth Olmstead age 55, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Garth Eric Olmstead was born June 11, 1954, in Petaluma, CA, the son of Robert and Diana (Mustonen) Olmstead. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in Sandpoint, Idaho in 1972. He attended Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho and received his Bachelors degree. Garth married Rebecca Todd November 21, 1978 and together they had three children. They moved to Gillette, WY in 1992. He was employed as a Letourneau Specialist working as a heavy equipment mechanic in the lumber industry in northern Idaho and Sheridan, WY. He later worked as an insurance claims adjuster that eventually included liability claims, winning several awards and certifications until becoming totally disabled due to a progressive neuromuscular disease starting approximately in 2001. Garth enjoyed working on the computer and was very fond of the family camping trips. When Garth became physically unable to drive, Rebecca took the wheel and helped to carry on the tradition of family camping trips. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and the last few years spending time with friends, family and missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Garth had a great laugh that became infectious to those around him. He loved to give the grandchildren rides on his wheel chair. Garth is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years Rebecca Olmstead of Gillette, WY; sons, Eric Olmstead married to lovely wife Tonya of Dickinson, ND; Travis Olmstead of Gillette, WY; daughter, Beth (Olmstead) McVay married to great husband Bryan of Newcastle, WY and thirteen grandchildren; mother, Diana of Sandpoint, Idaho, one brother, Mark and one sister, Robin, and niece and nephew.
