Funeral services for Mark A. Richards, 59, will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Gillette, WY and 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Trinity United Methodist Church Christian Ministry Center in Lead, SD. Burial will take place at a later time. Mark Alan Richards, son of Norman and Betty Darlene (Tetrault) Richards was born May 01, 1951 in Deadwood, South Dakota. He passed away May 20, 2010 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mark grew up in the Lead area attending Lead schools and Black Hills State College. He worked for the Homestake Mining Company as an Electrician for 30 years before moving to Gillette, WY. He was employed with (Cundy Asphalt Paving) Intermountain Construction and Materials for 5 years and then as a Maintenance Supervisor at the Cam-Plex, a job he loved. On August 18, 1974 Mark was united in marriage with Carol (Speirs) in Lead, South Dakota. This union produced three blessings, Dawn Marie, Meri Ann and Jason Alan. Mark treasured his family and friends, but his pride and joy were his four grandsons. His dog Sadie was a special comfort to him during the last couple years. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, particularly hunting, fishing, camping and skiing. He collected Lionel trains. He designed and built his home in Gillette, WY and assisted in building his son Jasons home. He made a mean pot of chili. He was a jack-of-all-trades and took pleasure in helping with any project. He was very active in the Lead Rod and Gun Club and Lead United Methodist Church. He attended the United Methodist Church of Gillette. He served as a board member for the City of Gillette Board of Examiners. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol of Gillette; two daughters: Dawn Richards and husband Paul Wagner of Arvada, CO; Meri Richards (and Joe Thompson) of Casper, WY; one son, Jason Richards and wife Melissa of Gillette, WY; four grandsons, Evan Wagner, Tanner Richards, Ryan Wagner, and Brady Richards; his parents, Norman and Darlene Richards of Lead, SD; one sister, Norma (and Will) Cooper of Lead, SD; one brother, Keith Richards of Spearfish, SD. Mark was a friend to all who knew him and he will be missed by his family, his many friends and his co-workers. Preceding him in death was his brother, Norman.
