Visitation for Lela Rhodes will be 4-7 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Walker Funeral Home, Gillette, WY. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Strong City Cemetery, Strong City, Kansas. Lela Gay Rhodes age 77, passed away March 17, 2010 at her home in Gillette, WY of cancer. Surrounded by her family and loved ones. Lela Rhodes was born August 11, 1932 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas the daughter of John Henry and Drucildy (Cartee)Longshore. She married George Henry Rhodes Sr. September 12, 1948. They moved to Gillette, WY in 1969 and Lela worked as a cook in several cafes like the Sands, Lazy U Diner, and Husky Cafe none of which exist anymore. Lela enjoyed cooking big dinners for family holidays, and spending time with her family especially the grandkids. She also enjoyed watching TV and playing computer games. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Lela is survived by her sons, George H. Rhodes, Daniel L. Rhodes, and Steven M. Rhodes all of Gillette, WY; daughters, Sandra A. Thomas, Terrina L. Ross,and Lela M. Rhodes all of Gillette WY; brothers, David Longshore of Kansas, and Paul Longshore of Maryland; sisters, Violet Phillips of Oregon; Jewel Brown of Oklahoma; four grandchildren including her only grandson (her pride and joy) Andrew Lynn Thomas, eleven great grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Rhodes, Sr.; parents John and Drucildy Longshore; three brothers and three sisters.
