A celebration of life for Donald Diz Murphy will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 at the American Legion Post #42 at 200 Rockpile Ave in Gillette, Wyoming with Ron Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Legion section of the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Military honors provided by the American Legion Post #42. Don, age 61 passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital of heart failure. Don was born on July 15, 1948 in Denver, Colorado, a twin son born to Rose and Orval Murphy. He grew up and attended school in Arvada, Colorado. Don also attended Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado for two years. Don was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served a two year tour in Viet Nam. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal/Viet Nam Service/ Bronze Service Star Medal. He was honorably discharged on May of 1971. He married Karen Friend, July 14, 1984. Don was employed in the oil field construction, Campbell County Land Fill and general construction since 1974. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Moose and Eagles and also took great pride and being a member of the American Legion serving on the honor guard. Don enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing, camping and competition darts. He is survived by his wife, Karen Murphy of Gillette, Wyoming; four brothers, Ken, Ron, Brian and Steve Murphy. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vernon and Stan.
