Elmer Norlin

Mass of Christian Burial for Elmer Norlin will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2009 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette, WY with Father Cliff Jacobsen as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #42 and the Campbell County Sheriffs Office Honor Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 8, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. followed by a vigil and rosary service at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Elmer V. Norlin passed away June30, 2009 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Gillette, Wyoming. Elmer was born August 18, 1925 in Newell, South Dakota the son of Elmer J. and Lily (Will) Norlin. He spent the first twelve years in Newell SD. Following the death of his father the family moved to Belle Fourche, SD. He married Blondie Johner November 13, 1943. Elmer was drafted into the United States Army in December, 1943 from Butte County, SD. He was wounded in 1944 and discharged from the services in 1945. He worked at the Gambel Store in Belle Fourche until 1920 when his family then moved to Wheatland, WY where he managed the Gambel Store. Elmer and Blondie moved to Gillette in 1962 he was again employed at the Gambel Store and later at the Post Office until his retirement. He became very active in his adopted community, he served twenty years as a volunteer with the Sheriffs Posse and as a volunteer instructor for the Hunter Safety and Survival Classes for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Elmer also served six years on the Parks and Beautification Board, three years on the Board of Adjustments, as well as three years on the planning commission. He served six years on the Campbell County Senior Center Board of Directors as well as the Foundation Board. He also served eighteen years as a District Court Bailiff and was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was named Knight of the Year in 2009. Elmer is survived by his sons, Dean Norlin of Torrington, WY; Bob (Julie) Norlin of Gillette, WY; three grandsons and six great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Johner, of Gillette, WY; Daisy (Lyle) Baumeister, of Spearfish, SD; Ester (Jim) Webb of Elizabethtown, KY; Emily (Keith) Campbell of Mesa AZ; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his wife of forty three years Blondie; his father, mother and two brothers Earl and Louis Norlin; grandson Terry Dean Norlin and nephew Monte Norlin. A memorial has been established in his name to the Campbell County Humane Society for the care of small animals.
