Memorial service for Elmer Schulz will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 at Blanche Beck Memorial Chapel at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Gillette, Wyoming with Pastor Hans Sacrison of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Mobridge, South Dakota. Elmer Schulz passed away at his home in Gillette, Wyoming, Tuesday, June 9, 2009 of cancer. Elmer Benjamin Schulz was born November 13, 1930 in McLaughlin, South Dakota to Otto and Lydia (Schlenker) Schulz. Elmer attended school in McLaughlin, and married Dorothy Herron November 25, 1951; they had nine children. Elmer was a farmer, managed several businesses and was a substitute contract mail route carrier in McLaughlin. He was also a volunteer fireman with the McLaughlin Fire Department and a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. The couple retired to Apache Junction, Arizona in 1999 and in 2004 started dividing their time between Arizona and Gillette. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Moose Lodge, and the Epiphany Lutheran Church, Apache Junction, Arizona. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and gambling in the casinos. Elmer is survived by his wife Dorothy of Gillette; four sons, Tim (June) Schulz of Brandon, SD; Tony (Holly) Schulz and Troy (Gina) Schulz of Wall SD; Guy Schulz of Apache Junction, AZ; daughters, Melodee Bartsch, Spring (Gerald) Walker, Stacey (Kevin) Byrum all of Gillette, WY; Holly (Steve Keller), Trail City SD; Lisa (John) Ocilka of Rapid City, SD; sister, Lorraine (Mayard) Hier, Mobridge, SD; Fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Schulz, great-grandson, Jackson Walker. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to The American Cancer Society or Campbell County Hospice House Building Fund in Elmers name.
