A Celebration of Life for John E. Longthorne will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Moorcroft, Wyoming with Pastor Guille Seigler officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Gillette American Legion Post #42. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. John Longthorne, age 69 passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John Longthorne was born on February 29, 1940 the son of Hazen and Margaret (Koch) Longthorne in Detroit, Michigan. After his education he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 8, 1957. After serving his country for seven years, John was honorably discharged on March 7, 1963. He met Marilyn Nicholson in Seattle, Washington and they were married on December 21, 1963. After thirty five years with The Boeing Company in management, John retired and the couple moved to Pine Haven, Wyoming. John was an avid hunter, shooter, and loved to spend time with friends and family. John was an active member of the NRA, AMA, North American Hunting Club, Turkey Federation and the Wyoming Wildlife Federation. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Longthorne of Pine Haven, Wyoming. One son, Robert John (Krista) Longthorne, and one daughter, Lori J. Longthorne, and from his first marriage to Sharon Wilson, two daughters: Sharalyn Longthorne, and Penny Longthorne. His mother Margaret Longthorne of Gladwin, Michigan two brothers: James (Michele) Longthorne and Lyman Longthorne, one sister, Susan (Doug) Cobb, eight grandchildren; Gavin, Ezra, Micah, Jakeb, Emily, Acarianna, Alaurielle, and Arion, one great grandson, Jayden. John was preceded in death by his father Hazen Longthorne, one brother Robert G. Longthorne, grandmother, Mary Koch, and grandfather, Edward Longthorne. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Johns name to benefit the Devils Tower Relay for Life-American Cancer Society.
