Funeral service for Josephine Martinez will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Walker Funeral Home, Gillette, Wyoming. Burial will follow at Mt Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Walker Funeral Home. Josephine Martinez, age 81 passed away March 14, 2009 of natural causes at the Pioneer Manor, Gillette, Wyoming. Josephine was born in Julesburg, Colorado on April 29, 1927 to Mel and Maria (Davila) Diaz. She married Salvador Martinez February 2, 1947. Salvador and Josephine moved to Gillette in the summer of 1968. She was a frequent fixture on the bleachers at the various sporting events that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in. She especially enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, and volleyball. She was a member of the Campbell County Hospital Auxiliary. Josephine was employed by the Gillette Advertiser, Campbell County Municipal Airport and Pinkerton Security to name a few of her many jobs. She considered everyone she met a friend and was known to buy gifts for various people who touched her life, no matter how great or small. Her devotion to her friends was shadowed only by her devotion to her family. Josephine is survived by her husband, Salvador of Gillette Wyoming; daughters, Betty Martinez, of Gillette, Wyoming; Mary (Wayne) Boom of Story, Wyoming; Jane (Bill) Fitch of Gillette, Wyoming; sons Robert Martinez of Gillette, Wyoming; and Salvador Martinez Jr. of Fort Collins, Colorado; brother Salvador Diaz of Julesburg, Colorado. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers and infant son Richard. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial in Josephines name to benefit the Dialysis Center of Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
