A memorial service will be conducted for Geraldine Ida McCreery at Pioneer Manor at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2009 with Sister Carol Metchenberg and the Gentian Chapter 23 of the Eastern Star presiding. She died at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette, Wyoming on February 8, 2009 after a long illness. Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be buried at the cemetery in Douglas, Wyoming. Gerry was born September 26, 1907 at Manville, Wyoming to Dr R.L. and Imo (Burkett) McCreery. She attended schools in Manville, Wyoming, Los Angeles, California and graduated from high school in Torrington, Wyoming in 1924 where she was a guard on the state champion Girls Basketball team. She attended the University of Wyoming for two years. For several years she taught schools in rural Niobrara County. She then worked for the Wyoming Employment Service for a number of years at Sundance and Cody. In 1956 she moved to Cheyenne where she was later employed by the Internal Revenue Service until her retirement in 1977. The main interest in her life was as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Burkett H. McCreery. She is survived by her brother, Robert P. (Pat) McCreery of Gillette, Wyoming and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews. A memorial has been established in Geraldine McCreery's name to benefit the Order of the Eastern Star of Cheyenne. Donations may also be made to the local animal shelter in Geraldine McCreery's name.
