Ethel Mae Conner, age 84, longtime Riverton, Wyoming resident passed away Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Gillette, Wyoming after a short battle with cancer. Upon her request no services will be held, a family celebration of life will be held this summer. Ethel was born November 18, 1924, the youngest of 10 children to James and Lillian (Gardiner) Marshall in Vernal Utah. She was raised in Utah; in September of 1954 she married Bud Conner. They lived in several places before settling in Riverton, Wyoming with their eight children. Ethel lived in Riverton until health problems made it necessary to move to Gillette, Wyoming in 2008. She will be remembered as a strong advocate for the humane treatment of animals. She loving cared for all of her animals, especially her constant companions, her dogs Suzi and Sweetie. She was an avid gardener and took painstaking care of her yard, which was full of whimsical statues, colorful flowers and a variety of plants. Ethel grew a large vegetable garden and always loved to talk about how things were growing. She could always be counted on to have a cookie ready for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they came to visit and a cup of tea could always be found close by. Ethel is survived by two daughters, Charlene (Ted) Seely of Lander, Wyoming; Leslie (Dale) Hinton of Willow Park, Texas; three sons, Garry (Kaye) Davis, Randy (Aimee) Conner, and Greg (Diane) Conner all of Gillette, Wyoming; two dogs, Suzi and Sweetie; 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, three sons, Brent and Alan Davis, and Mike Conner, five brothers, Victor, Milton, Calvin, Clinton, and Earl and four sisters, Frances, Merle, Vera and Ellen.
