A memorial service for Barb Peterson will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Walker Funeral Home, Gillette, Wyoming, with Pastor Bill Morel of the Family Life Church officiating. Barbara Peterson known to her family and friends as Barb, age 63, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of heart failure after a long battle with lung disease. Barbara Kay Peterson was born September 16, 1945 the daughter of Loyd and Betty (Rector) Wicker in Lewistown, Montana. Barb was raised and attended school in Moccasin, and Lewistown, Montana. She graduated from Fergus High School in Lewistown in 1963. She then attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, Washington. She married James R. Peterson on January 23, 1964, in Lewistown, Montana. They had three children, Darleen, James and Ronald. She worked as a secretary for the U.S. Forest Service in Leadville, Colorado from 1964 to1968. The family moved to Gillette Wyoming in 1969 and Barb was employed as a bookkeeper for Gillette Diesel. She was a den mother for Cub and Boy Scouts and a team mother for Little League Baseball. Barb was an avid bowler, and also enjoyed hunting and camping and was a member of the Eagles Lodge. For many years she volunteered to answer the phones and take pledges for the Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy. Barb is survived by her husband, James, two sons, James Peterson III of Gillette, Wyoming; Ron Peterson of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, DarleenWright of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandson, Devin Peterson of Gillette, Wyoming; granddaughter, Angela Brown of Douglas, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. In lieu of the flowers, a memorial in Barbs name has been established to benefit the family and memorials can be sent to the Walker Funeral Home at 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, Wyoming 82716.
