A gathering of family and friends, to celebrate the life of Jack Cooper will be from 2 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming. Jackie Deen Cooper, age 74, known to his family and friends as Jack, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Jackie Deen Cooper was born on October 7, 1934 the son of David and Goldie (Baker) Cooper in Lebanon, Oregon. Jacks father worked construction and the family moved through out the western states as he was growing up. Jack enlisted in the U. S. Army February 24, 1953 and served in the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in 1956. Jack married Patricia Harris, January 7, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. They settled in Gillette in 1957 where Jack worked construction building numerous houses. He also worked in the oilfield and as a guard for Pinkerton Security at the Eagle Butte Mine. Jack also played bass guitar in local bands; Jerry and the Jokers and the Country Gentlemen They often played at the Center Bar and the Lobby Bar in the Goings Hotel. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, listening to music and reading. He will be remembered for his story telling, Jack never met a stranger and could visit with anyone. Jack is survived by Patricia; two sons, Patrick and Paul Cooper, daughters, Jacquelyn Jackie, J-Ann, and Annette Cooper all of Gillette, Wyoming; brother, Bob Cooper of Oxford, Nebraska, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Donald; and one sister, Bess Baumberger. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer a memorial in Jacks name to benefit Campbell County Memorial Hospice Hospitality House or a charity of choice and memorials can be sent to the Walker Funeral Home at 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, Wyoming 86716.
