A memorial service for Donald Don Anthony Mayer will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Father Phillip Vaske as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at the Gillette, Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2008 at Walker Funeral Home. Donald Anthony Mayer known to his family and friends as Don, age 83, passed away Friday, September 27, 2008 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette following a long illness. Don was born June 10, 1925 in Cold Spring, Minnesota to Lawrence J. and Olga (Mumm) Mayer, the second of eleven children. Don attended school and began working at the age of 15 at Petes Meat Market candling eggs and later cutting meat and delivering to local residents. He drove taxi in St. Cloud Minnesota for three years then began cutting meat for National T. Groceries. In 1943 Don married Bernice Goedert they had 9 children. Don moved to Alexandria, Minnesota in 1947 and started his own business, Floor Covering Service, which he continued to operate until his retirement at age seventy. In 1995 Don and Bernie moved to Gillette, Wyoming for health reasons.Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and waterskiing with his family. He also enjoyed wood working, travel, and playing cards with family and friends. Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bernie, sons; Jon (Carol) Mayer, Alexandria, Minnesota, Jim (Karlene) Mayer, Wenatchee, Washington, Rick (Ann) Mayer, Melrose, Minnesota, daughters: Bonnie(Don) Beseke, Garfield, Minnesota, Josy (Jim) Daniel, Gillette, Wyoming, Vicky Su (Don) Fritz, Belfair, Washington, Cindy (Scott) Jensen, Ogden, Utah, Lou Pinto, a Special Brazilian exchange student. Brothers: Delroy Mayer, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Kenny Mayer, Wisconsin. Sisters: Louella Blais, Waco, Texas, Lillian Mayer, Paynesville, Minnesota, Virginia Dahl, St. Cloud, Minnesota, Dorothy Theis, Clearlake, Minnesota, Donna Little, West Jordan, Utah, Thirty grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his daughters: Mary in 1947, Judy Lenferink in 2000, parents, brothers: James & Robert (Bud), sister, Carol Moschau and one grandson Jeff Beseke. A memorial has been established to benefit Campbell County Senior Center, and donations may be sent in care of the Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716.
