Funeral services for Cecle Cook will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joel Wright of the First Presbyterian Church officiating along with Eastern Star and the Mason's. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Gillette Memorial Chapel formerly Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home.Mr. Cook, age 94, formerly of Gillette, Wyoming died in Portland, Oregon on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 of natural causes.Cecle Cook was born on April 5, 1914 in Lincoln, Kansas the son of John and Myrtle (Kirkbride) Cook. The family moved to Wyoming in 1920, and homesteaded south of Gillette in the Savageton area. In 1927, the family moved 15 miles north of Gillette. Cecle graduated from high school in 1931 and took a year of normal training. He attended the University of Wyoming for 2 years. On April 9, 1939, he married LaVerne New and worked at various jobs to support the family. He was a logger in Wyoming, a heavy equipment operator in Colorado, a strawberry picker in Oregon, a paper mill worker in Washington, and a n inspector for the Navy in Keyport, Washington. In 1946, he returned to Wyoming and worked in the coalmines at Acme and later moved to Riverton and worked in the oil fields. In 1949, the family moved back to Gillette to the family farm where he raised livestock and wheat until his retirement. Cecle's number one love was tractors and farming. He enjoyed traveling and went to Hawaii, Europe, Mexico and Alaska as well as a number of other states. He enjoyed playing card games, including cribbage, pinochle, bridge and pitch. Organizations that he was actively involved in included The Order of the Eastern Star, the Mason's, and the Shriners. Cecle was a very active member of the Masonic Lodge, active in all levels of the lodge, ending his membership as a 32nd degree Mason. He was a 65 year member of the Eastern Star. Cecle was also a long time member of the Kalif Shrine. Cecle is survived by his children: Kathleen Wheeler of New Mexico, Bart Cook of California and Sandra Howard of Oregon; 3 sisters, Pauline Haas and Bernice Hampton of Wyoming and Donna Jean Phenix of Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews; 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 1 brother and 5 sisters.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital.
