A funeral service for Tommy "Tom" Harmon will be at 2:00 pm Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming with Pastor Christopher Carr of the First United Methodist Church officiating. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery in Buffalo Gap, South Dakota with Pastor Coates of the Custer-Fall River Larger Parish of the United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Walker Funeral Home.Tom Harmon, age 51, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 25, 2008 in Gillette, Wyoming.Tommy Lee Harmon was born on May 21, 1957 the son of Donald and Mariann (Hedlun) Harmon in Hot Springs, South Dakota. The family resided on a ranch near Buffalo Gap, South Dakota and Tom attended grade school in Oral, South Dakota. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1976. After graduation Tom was employed driving truck over the road that took him to numerous states. On September 26, 1981 he married Patricia Ulmer in Hot Springs, South Dakota. They moved to Gillette, Wyoming in 1982 where Tom began work with the Fort Union Coal Mine as a haul truck driver. When the mine closed, Tom worked for various construction companies for several years. He was employed as a mechanic for the Osborne Construction Company now known as the Earth Work Solutions since 1990 until the time of his death.Tom was a member of the local Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing cribbage with his father in law, and watching NASCAR racing on television. He collected caps and had quite a collection of numerous companies in the Wyoming area. Tom was a workaholic and when at home would always be tinkering with something. Tom also enjoyed watching the college football team the Cowboys because his daughter had attended the University of Wyoming. His favorite professional team was the Kansas City Chiefs.Tom's greatest passion was providing for his family. Being a grandfather to his only grandson, Cody was the thrill of his lifetime. They just shared numerous birthdays, his, his daughters and his grandsons first birthday.He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Patty" Harmon of Gillette, Wyoming, two daughters, Louise Harmon of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Linda Carl and family of Gillette, Wyoming;His mother, Mariann Langer of Hot Springs, South Dakota; two sisters, Colleen Bowker and Patricia Collogan, both of Hot Springs, South Dakota; one grandson, Cody Carl, three aunts, three nieces and one nephew.Tom was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Ricky and Rodney Harmon, his maternal and paternal grandparents, a cousin, an aunt, uncle and niece.A memorial has been established in Tom?s name and can be sent to the Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, Wyoming 82716.Condolences can be sent via mail or the internet: www.walkerfuneralgillette.com
