A memorial service for Muriel Bowen will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Blanche Beck Memorial Chapel in Gillette, Wyoming with Sister Carol Mechtenberg officiating.Muriel Zimmerman Bowen was born February 3, 1915 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and died April 29, 2008 in Gillette, Wyoming at the age of 93. She was the daughter of Edward H. and Mary Zimmerman. She grew up with a brother, Herman, and two sisters, Zelma and Mary, in a house in Steamboat Springs, which later became the Tread of the Pioneers Museum. She married Elvin "Jerry" Bowen on August 17, 1934. Jerry passed away in 1990. She was a member of Euzoa Congregational Church in Steamboat Springs until 1958 when her husband sold his pharmacy, Law Drugstore, in Steamboat Springs and bought another one, Cowan Drug, in Craig, Colorado. Muriel sang in the choir of the Euzoa Congregational Church in Steamboat Springs and also, over the years, sang at many weddings, funerals and other functions. In Craig, she and her husband, Jerry, were members of The Church of Christ. In Steamboat Springs and Craig Colorado, Muriel was also a member of PEO, a women's philanthropic and social club. Muriel and Jerry were avid hikers, skiers, travelers and photographers. In later years, they took several extended trips through Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, Arizona, Alaska, Canada, and Europe. Muriel is survived by two daughters, Lynda (A.L.) Davis, who lives in New York City, and Jeralyn (Brian) Law, who lives in Gillette, Wyoming; two grandchildren, SeanBarrick and Holly Barrick, who also live in Gillette, Wyoming. Cremation will be in Gillette, Wyoming.In lieu of flowers, it is requested that any donations be sent to Mountain States Children's Home, in care of Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716.
