George Statton

Memorial services for George Stratton will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Morel of the Family Life Church officiating. George Arthur Stratton, age 85, of Gillette, Wyoming died on Friday, March 21, 2008 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of natural causes.George was born on December 14, 1922 in Mitchell, Nebraska the son of Arthur and Edna (Lyon) Stratton. He was the third child of seven. George met Janice Hill in Custer, South Dakota and the couple was married in Gering, Nebraska in 1945. To this union 4 children were born, two girls and 2 boys. George worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp at the tail end of the depression and in the timber. He joined the United States Army for two years, in the infantry. Upon his return from the military George worked in the feldspar mine, and then in the oil fields for 35 years. He would drive from Custer to work in the oil fields in Newcastle, Moorcroft and Gillette and back to his home to be with his family. His family always came first, including his brothers and sisters. George had a green thumb as you could see by the garden he grew each year, and the many trees in his yard. He loved his dogs which he took with him wherever he went. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends.George is survived by daughters: Patty Schiefer of Custer, South Dakota and Jill Borland of Gillette, Wyoming; son, William Stratton of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice of 55 years, parents and one son, Jeffrey.Memorials and condolences may be sent in George's name in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. 5th Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or via the internet at www.stevensonwilson.com.
