A memorial funeral service for Waneta Sargent will be at 2 p.m. on February 22, 2008 at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chad Bruchlacher of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Gillette, WY officiating. A private cremation service has taken place.Waneta passed away at her home in Gillette, Wyoming on Monday, February 11, 2008 of an extended illness. She was 79.Waneta Elvira Sargent was born on December 13, 1928 the daughter of William and Mae (Williams) Thomason in Vermillion, South Dakota. She was raised and educated in the Vermillion area. Waneta met and later married Burdette Sargent on July 5, 1948 in Vermillion. She loved being a homemaker, and she and Burdette moved to California and later back to Armour, South Dakota. Waneta and Burdette moved to Wyoming then made there home in Utah where Burdette passed away nine years ago, and Waneta returned to Wyoming to be near her family. She resided in Wright, Wyoming where she was employed by Hank's. Waneta raised the most money in the state of Wyoming for MS in the "ugly bartenders" contest and her patrons and loved ones knew her as "ma". Her interests were painting, the outdoors and spending time with her family. She loved to "gossip" and enjoyed laughing and telling jokes. Shopping was a highlight in her life; her greatest passion was being a mother and grandmother. Waneta can best be described as having a rough and tough exterior with a heart of gold.Waneta is survived by her son Billy Sargent of Gillette, daughters, Anita Pickinpaugh of Edgerton, Wyoming and Kitty DeGeest of Plankington, South Dakota; and her sister Twila Brown of Manteca, California; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
