John Tholson

Funeral services for John Lawrence Tholson will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home the Gillette Masonic Lodge #28 will provide Masonic rites. Internment will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #42 Mr. Tholson, age 78, of Rozet, Wyoming died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital from injuries he sustained after a fall. John Tholson was born on June 13, 1929, to Kitty (Preston) and Theodore Tholson in Gillette, Wyoming. Mr. Tholson was raised on his family?s homestead near Rozet. He attended Rozet School until his junior year when he joined the United States Army and served two tours of duty until 1952 earning his high school diploma while in the service. After his stint in the armed services, he returned to Wyoming where he worked for the Wyoming Highway Department. Mr. Tholson was a self-taught, licensed, professional engineer and land surveyor for the department until his retirement in 1979. He considered his work on Interstate 25 between Glendo and Douglas his greatest accomplishment. On December. 4, 1954, Mr. Tholson married JoAnn Young, and they would have four children over the next decade. In his retirement, Mr. Tholson ran cows at his ranch in Rozet. Some of his greatest moments in life were spent with grandchildren as they grew up raising livestock at the ranch. Mr. Tholson enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting friends at the various social establishments in Moorcroft and Rozet. His pet cats were also valued companions later in his life. Mr. Tholson is survived by his wife; his daughters: Susan White and Jacque Gray; his son, Daniel Tholson; his sons-in-law, Don White, Bob Gray and Corky Stetson; his daughter-in-law, Vickie Daniels; his granddaughters, Stephanie Mares, Jamie Tholson, Michele Bau, Kirsten Stetson, Nicole Tholson, Dawn Connolly and Robyn Gray; his grandsons: Ruben Dan Mares, Erick Mares, Damon Tholson, Brett Osmon, J.D. Stetson, Patrick Stetson, Dustin White and Steven Gray; his great-grandchildren: Shelbie Zahrowski, Cody Mares, Quinn Bau, Josie Mares, Halle Osmon, Demi Jo Stetson, Zenadia Huerta, Selina Huerta, Payton Connolly, Journey Connolly, Austin White, Prestin White and Tristin White. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Calvin Tholson, and his daughter, Sherri Stetson. Memorials in Mr. Tholson's name will be donated to the volunteers at the Campbell County Fire Station in Rozet.
