Funeral services for Mark Teel will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2007 at Antelope Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Clyde Teel officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2007 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home.Mark Russell Teel, age 53, of Rozet, Wyoming passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, after a year long battle with leukemia. Mark was born on April 28, 1954 in Burke, South Dakota to Russell and Roberta (Steffen) Teel. Growing up in rural South Dakota, he and his four siblings attended school in a one room school house for several years. As a teen he was very active in wrestling and music. After graduating from Burke High School in 1972, Mark worked at various jobs including driving school bus and working as a ranch hand. While attending school at Mitchell Technical Institute, he worked for Gary Hoffman as a ranch hand. Upon graduation, he met and married his first wife, Shelly R. Fortier in September of 1977. To this union, three children were born, Melissa, Tracy and Emily. After the birth of their second child in 1980, the family moved to Gillette, Wyoming. While in Gillette, Mark worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for several years at Amax Eagle Butte Coal Mine. While employed at Amax, Mark and Shelly were divorced. He later met Marilyn Kay Eich of Gillette in 1997. The couple was married on July 26, 2002. During their marriage, Mark transferred his employment to Buckskin Coal Mine for six years. In his fourth year of employment at Buckskin, Mark was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome. In April of 2006, Mark's disease forced him to retire, later that year his disease transformed into acute myeloid leukemia. Mark spent the last year of his life battling this disease. He was an avid hunter and an outdoor enthusiast. Mark was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. It was important to Mark, Marilyn and family to thank the many people for their thoughts and prayers and the countless acts of kindness shown to them each day during this difficult time.Mark is survived by his wife, Marilyn Teel of Gillette, Wyoming; daughters: Melissa (Dan) Hartman and their children: Evan, Easton, Carter and Paige of Spearfish, South Dakota, Tracy Teel of Gillette, Wyoming and Emily Teel and her daughter Taylor of Gillette, Wyoming; step sons: Nathan Eich and Jeremy (Jessica) Culey and their children: Ashley, Tyler, Blake and Jordyn all of Gillette, Wyoming; brothers: Paul (Sue) Teel of Herrick, S.D. and Allen (Angie) Teel of Stickney, S.D.; sisters: Jane (Kenneth) Taylor of Herrick, S.D. and Kay (Lance) Matucha of Burke, S.D.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles.Memorials and condolences may be sent in Mark's name in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. 5th Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or via the internet at www.stevensonwilson.com.
