A Mass of Christian Burial for 82 year-old Campbell County rancher, Albert Wendell Schlautmann, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Philip J. Vaske officiating. A luncheon will be held after the services at St. Matthew's parish hall, followed by interment at Savageton Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, followed by the vigil and rosary at 6:30 p.m.Albert died on Friday, November 23, 2007 at 7:30 pm at Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer. He left this world surrounded by family and friends.He was born on July 25, 1925 to Wendell and Theresa Schlautmann at the family ranch near Savageton, Wyoming and was a life-long resident of Campbell County. Albert was a World War II veteran who enlisted in the Army on May 15, 1945, just one week after VE Day. He enlisted at Fort Logan, Colorado and served at various other locations until his discharge at the end of the war. In December of 1946 Albert met Mary Cohee, also of Gillette, Wyoming and they married the following year on October 26, 1947. Albert was working at Fulkerson Flying Service in Gillette at the time of their wedding, but he and Mary soon moved to his family?s ranch 40 miles south of Gillette where he worked and raised his family for the remainder of his life. Over the years, Albert was a member of the Flying Farmers and the Cattle growers Association. He was also an active parishioner at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette and had an extensive circle of friends in the community. He is survived by his wife Mary, his sisters: Barbara Schlautmann and Lucy McMahon of Gillette, Wyoming, Clara Smetna of Black River Falls, Wisconsin; his brother, Louis Schlautmann of South Heart, North Dakota; his seven children: Joseph (Vicki) Schlautmann, John Schlautmann, Ronald (Jeanie) Schlautmann, Patrick (Julie) Schlautmann, Patricia (David) Saunders, Michael Schlautmann, all of Gillette, Wyoming and Zita Schlautmann who currently resides in San Antonio, Texas. At the time of his death, Albert had fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He is loved and deeply missed by all. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Theresa Schlautmann, a baby brother who died at birth in 1933, his sister Rita Lubken, and grandsons Jacob Saunders and William Schlautmann. A memorial has been set up in his name at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital Cancer Center in Gillette.
