Funeral service for Herman Johnsrud will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Pastor Scott Firminhac officiating.A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. central time on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the Clear Creek Cemetery near Watford City, North Dakota.Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2007 at the Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming and one hour prior to service on Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church.John Herman Johnsrud, age 95, known to his family and friends as Herman, passed away on October 19, 2007 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette, Wyoming of natural causes. Herman Johnsrud was born on July 12, 1912 the third of twelve children born to Helmer and Sophia (Hagen) Johnsrud on the family homestead in McKenzie County, North Dakota. He attended rural schools in the Watford City area and graduated from the eighth grade. After graduating Herman farmed for a short while in North Dakota. As a young man he attended the Auto Body School in Wahpeton, North Dakota and received his certificate. Herman moved to San Diego, California to work on airplane bombers during the Second World War. He married Mildred Karr and they later divorced. Herman lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Denver, Colorado, and Livingston, Montana where he worked in auto body shops before moving to Gillette, Wyoming in 1952.While in Denver he met and married Colleen Ehorn with son Randy Scott and they had one daughter, Anda.In Gillette, Herman continued his talent by working for the Chevrolet garage and later opened his own shop, Herman's Auto Body.Herman was known for his great story telling, his many opinions and wittiness. He is loved and respected by his many friends and family. He could invent and create anything when he needed something. Herman was an avid hunter and fisherman that lived off the earth and had a huge respect for nature. He never knew a stranger and could visit with anyone and was regularly found at his favorite visiting spots, always with a cup of coffee in hand.Herman was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Gillette, Wyoming and enjoyed photography, reading, pool and playing cards.He is survived by his daughter Anda (Gary) Anderson of Greeley, Colorado, his son, Randy (Viola) Scott of Sturgis, South Dakota, two brothers, Neil Johnsrud of Everett, Washington and Oscar Johnsrud of Watford City, North Dakota, three sisters, Esther Heller of Fargo, North Dakota, Ella Hoadley of Wrenshal, Minnesota and Mavis Connell of Sutherlin, Oregon, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.Herman was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Carl, Harold and Lewis Johnsrud, and three sisters, Olga Heller, Margaret Woitzel and Helen Moan.A memorial has been established in Mr. Johnsrud's name to benefit the Trinity Lutheran Church.
