Daniel "Dan" Lee Sturdevant passed away at the Campbell County Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming on Sunday, September 30, 2007, following an unexpected illness.Daniel Lee Sturdevant was born on January 16, 1956 to Lester and Betty (Corpe) Sturdevant in Buffalo, Wyoming. Dan had 3 brothers and 3 sisters; Shirley, Orville, Ernie, Loren, Velma, and Crystal. He attended school in Buffalo and graduated in 1974. After graduation he left for Seattle, Washington where he worked in a foundry for a year. He then returned to Casper, Wyoming where he worked as a carpenter with his brother, Ernie. On July 29, 1978 he married Kay Wheeler. In 1979 they moved to Laramie, Wyoming. Dan gave up his job in Casper to allow Kay to return to college to pursue her teaching degree. They lived in Laramie until 1983. The couple then moved to Loveland, Colorado where Dan worked as an Iron Worker. In 1985 they moved back to Wyoming when Kay received a teaching contract. There they started their family in 1987 when their first child Jessica was born. They lived in Upton for 2 years until moving to Gillette, Wyoming where Dan worked in construction with various companies some including Answorth, Benning, S&S Builders, and Hladky Construction. He helped build the Heritage Center at the Camplex and City West. His last job was with the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in the Maintenance Department as a carpenter. It was in Gillette where his two other children Dallas and Amber were born in 1989 and 1994. Dan loved to spend his free time with his family. Fishing and camping were a common occurrence for the Sturdevant family. If able to get his way Dan would head up to the mountains every weekend during the summer. Dan was also an avid Denver Broncos fan. Football was a passion for Dan, both professional and high school games. His children were the joy of his life and he especially enjoyed going to all of their school activities, whether it was a football game, volleyball game, or musical concerts. When not at school functions Dan loved to get away and take a ride on his Harley Davidson. Dan and Kay would often go for rides; he also loved to go on road trips with Dallas on the bikes. Aside from those many activities he was also quite the book worm. Dan will be terribly missed by all.
