Memorial Service for Donald Louis Havelick will be at 9:30 am on Saturday September 1, 2007 at the Blanche Beck Memorial Chapel at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette, Wyoming with Donald?s sons officiating. Flag presentation and ?Taps? provided by the VFW Post 579. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the memorial service in the lunch room at Pioneer Manor The family would like those attending to bring a pan of bars, cakes or cookies.Burial will be prior at the Black Hills National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2007 with the Sturgis Honor Guard providing military honors. Donald Louis ?Louie? Havelick, age 79, died at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette, WY on August 23, 2007 of natural causes.Donald Louis Havelick known by his family and friends as ?Louie? , was born April 23, 1928 in Jamestown, North Dakota, the son of Louis F. and Kathrine M. (Frandsen) Havelick. He was raised and educated in Jamestown attending Jamestown College and receiving numerous awards in athletics. ?Louie? married Mary J. McCurdy in 1947 they were divorced in 1948. He married Grace M. Luehr on June 10, 1949, they were divorced in 1961. He married Edmee Hutchinson in 1981 in Boise Idaho, they were divorced in 1991.?Louie? served over 16 years in the US Army with service in Korea during the Police Action 1951 to 1952. After his discharge he lived in Ogden, Utah prior to moving to Gillette in 1980. He worked at the Council of Community Services until his retirement in 1992. Unable to stand inactivity he accepted a part time position at the Campbell County Detention Center as Commissary Aide ?Louie? retired again after 8 years with the Detention Center in 2001. He enjoyed trying to reinstate the ?wave? while sitting in his lawn swing and waving to passing motorists from his home near the hospital. ?Louie? was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 579. He enjoyed photography and collecting coins. ?Louie? was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; three sisters and one infant daughter. He is survived by his four sons Guy W. and Eric J. of Rochester MN; Linn D. and Chris C. of the Denver, CO area; one sister, Dorthy Kapfer of Eagle Lake, MN; 8 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Louie?s name to Hospice of Campbell County or to the American Heart Association.
