Funeral services for Edwin R. Jones will be at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, August 3, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church Moorcroft with Pastor Donovan Voigt officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M., Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette. Burial will follow in Moorcroft Cemetery.Ed Jones, age 96, of Moorcroft, Wyoming passed away on Monday, July 30, 2007 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of cancer.Edwin Jones was born at New Haven, Wyoming on December 15, 1910 the son of George and Ella May (Sheets) Jones. He was raised on a farm in the Rocky Point area where he attended grade school at the Nebraska School in Crook County. Ed also attended three years of high school at the Rocky Point School in Campbell County. He was an honor student in both schools. Ed was on the baseball team as a catcher. After leaving school he worked with his father on the farm until about eighteen years of age; he then worked at various farms. He later worked for a rancher around Buffalo, Wyoming, he was a true cowboy. Ed worked on the railroad as a fireman until he took employment with Joe Lynde Construction. This is where he met his future wife, Ruth Schuette. The couple was married in Billings, Montana, on October 22, 1945. After marriage they moved to Belle Fourche, South Dakota, where Ed worked in the Bentonite plant until it was destroyed by fire. He bought a tractor and haying equipment and did haying in the Biddle, Montana, area for Bill Fortner on the Cross Ranch. In 1947 they moved to Moorcroft and started their own electric, plumbing, and propane business known as Jones Electric. We ran the business for forty years. Later on he bought a backhoe, until his retirement in 1989. Ed was a hard worker, his hobby was work. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Ed was a charter member of the Moorcroft Lions Club, who will be celebrating their 50 year anniversary on August 12, 2007.Ed is survived by his wife, Ruth of Moorcroft, Wyoming; 3 sons: Gary (Joyce) Jones of Newcastle, Wyoming, Rocky (Laura) Jones of Davenport, Iowa, and Rusty (Shanda) Jones of Wright, Wyoming; 1 brother, Ben (Lois) Jones of Spearfish, South Dakota; 1 sister, Frankie Smith of Buffalo, Wyoming; several grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ronald, 2 sisters: Fern and Georgia, and brother, Mike.In lieu of flowers memorials may be suggested to benefit the First Presbyterian Church of Moorcroft or the Moorcroft Lions Club.
