A memorial service for Marie Anne Irvine Borrego will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Morel of the Family Life Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. To celebrate Marie's enthusiastic style, her family request that anyone who would like to join them, wear one of their favorite hat?s to the memorial service.Marie Borrego, age 59, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital with her loving husband Johnnie (Rudy) by her side. Marie's courageous battle with cancer ended suddenly due to complications.Marie was born on February 20, 1948 in Watrous, Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of Thomas and Mary Grant (MacDonald) Irvine. She spent her childhood in Saskatoon and also gave birth to her daughter, Tracy Mharroll Grace on January 12, 1970. Marie moved to Toronto in 1974, then to Calgary in 1991 and then to Vancouver in 1998. She attended York University in Toronto where she received her Bachelor of Arts, and Batchelor of Laws degrees. Marie was a member of the Bar Association of Canada and The Law Society of Ontario. She was the Executive Director of the organization Justice for Children and Youth. Marie was involved since the beginning of the grassroots of that foundation. It is the only advocacy group for children and justice in Canada. Marie was always the biggest fighter for the natives, single mothers, the poor, the homeless and the status of women. She championed her causes form Toronto to Calgary, all the way to Vancouver. Marie co-wrote the Young Offenders Act of Canada, which changed the age of a child who could be charged with criminal acts from 7 to 12 years of age. Her passion was the prevention of child abuse. In 1977 she traveled to her ancestral home in Scotland, with her mother and daughter. They visited with family and toured the castles and Scottish boroughs. Marie met her future husband, Johnnie (Rudy) Borrego as her online cribbage partner. A romance blossomed, and they married on February 24, 2004 and made their home in Gillette, Wyoming. Marie loved to read about current events, law and horror stories, as she loved to scare herself. Marie had a great love for movies especially musicals, with her favorites being "The Sound of Music", "West Side Story", and "Gone with the Wind". She could often be heard singing these songs. Along with her love of music and piano, she also loved to dance. Marie loved the "Baby Boomer" games, especially the trivia ones and had a gaggle of trivia players on the internet. She also loved crossword and puzzle books. Rudy enjoyed taking Marie traveling in their R.V., and introducing her to the sights of the wild west, especially the animals. Marie had a passion for cooking, and preparing food, especially BBQ, for friends and family. She dearly loved her pets, Woofie, Maggie and Willie, and her many pets through the years. Marie has a great sense of style, and showed her flair for fashion in many memorable hats and outfits. Her courage and determination in her battle with cancer was admired by all her family and friends. Marie was determined to live her life to the fullest, and did so with amazing grace. She will be dearly missed by her many friends, from coast to coast in Canada and the United States.Marie is survived by her husband, Rudy Borrego; daughter Tracy Irvine and her partner Nichole Simone Joly of Vancouver, Canada; mother, Mary (Jack) MacDonald-Irvine-Mosley of Parksville, Canada; step sister, Karen Mosley of Surrey, B.C., Canada; step-sons: Devon and Bryce of Canada; step children: Johnnie, Joe and Brandie and their families of the United States. She was preceded in death by her father.Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer society.
