Funeral services for Joy Speigelmyer of Henry, Nebraska, formerly of Gillette, Wyoming will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette. A second service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Henry-Lyman United Methodist Church in Henry, Nebraska. Interment will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington, Wyoming. Pastor Carroll Plisek will preside. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 28, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette and one hour prior to the services. Joy Louise Speigelmyer, 67, died on May 24, 2007 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette surrounded in LOVE with her family by her side. Joy was born on March 24, 1940 in Parsons, Kansas to William Louis & Stella May Wilkinson. She later moved with her family to Colorado and graduated from Merino High School in 1958. Joy married Floyd Speigelmyer on March 24, 1962, in Gillette, Wyoming. Early in their marriage, employment related travel, allowed them to live in South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, California & Oregon. In 1971, Joy and Floyd returned to Gillette, Wyoming to raise their three children. Joy spent 5 years working for the Campbell County School District, laughingly telling others it was where she could keep a watchful eye on the two boys. She later opened an in-home Day Care Center and through the years, lovingly became known as "Nanny Joy" to countless children & moms. Joy and Floyd retired one year ago and moved to Henry, Nebraska.Joy loved family, friends & always enjoyed a gathering. She was a friend to all, having compassion for others and their needs. Her endless supply of smiles, hugs, laughs & energy was contagious and reflected her personality and love of life. She enjoyed quilting, scrap booking, & working in her flower garden. Joy also spent many hours serving at the Campbell County Soup Kitchen, delivering Meals-on-Wheels, & volunteering at the Gillette Camplex. She was instrumental in setting up a new "Red Hat Society" chapter in Gillette and enjoyed being an active participant, with that being said it would be appropriate for fellow Red Hat members to include their red hat in their attire at Joy's services. As a member of Waywest Methodist Mission in Henry, NE, she enjoyed preparing food for various church functions. Joy also helped plan and prepare food for numerous social events held in the town of Henry, NE. When she wasn't busy dedicating her time to her family & her community, Joy and Floyd liked to spend time traveling or camping in their RV with their two miniatures Doberman Pinchers, Buddy & Hosier. Joy is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Floyd Speigelmyer; her daughter, Suzie Osterloh of Cheyenne, WY; her two sons: Gary Speigelmyer & Bruce Speigelmyer both of Gillette, WY; her brother Jay Wilkinson of Gillette, WY; her four sisters Velma Daughtery of Arnegard, ND; Wilma Hamilton of Jessup, GA; Dianna Evans of Fairview, MO; & Lorraine Johnson of Franklin, TN; her nine grandchildren: Krystal Mansur of New Braunfels, TX; Larissa Holaday of Cheyenne, WY; Joanna Mansur of Gillette, WY; Janelle Speigelmyer of Woodsville, WI; Shalee Osterloh of Cheyenne, WY; Joseph Speigelmyer of Gillette, WY; Ashley Speigelmyer; Randall Speigelmyer; & Stephen Speigelmyer all of Lawson, CO and her great-grandchild Logan Holaday of Cheyenne, WY. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, W.L. "Lou" & Stella Wilkinson and three brothers: Louis Wilkinson, Martin Wilkinson & James Wilkinson. The family would especially like to thank the nurses and staff at Campbell County Memorial Hospital for their loving services to Joy and the family.
