Funeral services for Billie Halbrook will be11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 31,2007 at the New Life Wesleyan Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Pastor WesIsaac officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.Visitation will be from 3-7 on Friday, March 30, 2007 at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette.Mr. Halbrook, age 72, of Gillette, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.Billie Lee Halbrook was born November 4, 1934 in Matthews, Missouri, theson of Lafayette and Guyulah (Porter) Halbrook. He was raised and educated in Matthews. As a young man Billie was quite an athlete, participating inhigh school track and later tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Billie moved to New Mexico with his family where he began working in the oilfield. It was in New Mexico he met Yvonne Daniels, they married on May 28, 1955, the couple made their home and started their family in Hobbs, New Mexico. A change of professions came when Billie began working in the underground potash mines, while attending trade school. He then moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, continuing his mining career. In 1969 Billie and his family came to Gillette where he returned to the oilfield working for Reed'sWelding Service and later as a foreman for Gillette Machinery. In 1972 Billie began working as a welder for Amax. 1976 brought more change when Billie began seventeen years of service as a maintenance manager at Cordero Mine. He has been employed with Terex Mining as their maintenance manager since. Billie loved his work and was much respected through out the industry, affectionately known to many as "Big Daddy" Billie enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching and playing golf as well as baseball. He will be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather and doting husband to the love of his life, Yvonne. Billie was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his 2 sons: Ricky and his wife Sandy, Steven Halbrook and his wife Pam; daughter, Kristi Halbrook all of Gillette; sister, Katherine Flowers of Hobbs, New Mexico; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren as well as 2 nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and grandson, Kagen Halbrook. Memorials in Billie's name are suggested to benefit the Shriner?s Children's Hospital.
