Memorial services for Russell Wineteer will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thurs. January. 25, 2007 at the Gillette Seventh Day Adventist Church., with Pastor Paul Vercio officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home of Gillette, Wyoming is entrusted with the arrangements. Mr. Wineteer, age 77, of Gillette, died on Friday, January. 19, 2007 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home from natural causes. Marvin Russell Wineteer, known to his family and friends as Russell was born on April 4, 1929 the son of Rodney and Jessie (Ferguson) Wineteer in McGrew, Nebraska. As a toddler, Russ moved with his family to Olrichs, S.D. where he received much of his education. At the age of fifteen the family moved to Custer S.D. where he graduated from high school. After his schooling Russ married Esther Fitzner on October 29, 1948 in Hot Springs, S.D. The couple made their home and started their family in Custer where Russell worked for a local mine. In 1962 Russ moved his family to Deadwood where he owned and operated the Texaco/Standard service station. In 1970 he moved to Gillette when purchasing the Sinclair Station. Later, after selling his business, Russell began a fourteen year career in the oil field working for Occidental Petroleum, retiring at the age of 59. In 1999, Russ began his most memorable job, working as a crossing guard for the school district. He loved those kids and was disappointed when he was forced to quit due to his health in October of 2006. Russell?s hobbies include garage sailing every weekend in the summer, flower gardening, producing the most beautiful roses, and woodworking, his favorite creation being cedar chests for jewelry. He enjoyed feeding the squirrels? that lived by his home and at the crosswalk. He would always have a pocket full of peanuts that they would come eat out of his hands. Russ is survived by his wife Esther; Sons: Roy Wineteer of Gillette, Jim Wineteer of Billings ,Montana, Douglas Wineteer of Gillette, Rodney Wineteer of Charolotte, North Carolina Daughters: Sue Sherard of Round Up, Montana, Shelly Wesley of Gillette, Wyoming, Tracy Mannhalter of Longmont, Colorado, Mary Paul and Jody Wineteer both of Gillette, twenty-two Grandchildren and twenty-five Great-grandchildren 2 sisters: Joy Daniels of Ukiah, California and Carol Towsend of Chester, California as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Royal and Daryl.
