Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis. Brock was 22 when he passed away at his home in Gillette with his parents on Friday, January 5, 2007 from complications of Muscular Dystrophy. Brock was the only child (love of their life) of Tim and Alicia (Nelson) Heckel. Brock was a gift given to his parents on April 3, 1984. He was 1 month early, but we were ready for his presence in our lives. He attended elementary school at Lead-Deadwood School, at age 10 Brock moved with his family to Gillette where he attended Wagon Wheel Elementary, Twin Spruce Jr. High and graduated 2003 From CCHS. After graduation Brock began working at the Rec Center as a gym monitor, and currently was working at Hastings Book and Video Store. This was a perfect fit for Brock, his love and knowledge of Xbox and video games of all kinds (especially sports) made him a great customer service assistant. Brock had a great enthusiasm for sports of all kinds. Most often Brock would have a TV remote in his hand running through channels watching as many as 8 different games at the same time. Footballs, especially the Bronco?s were Brock?s favorite, except when they lost he wouldn?t always claim them. Sunday?s were Football day with his parents, order pizza and drink Mt. Dew (Brock?s favorite) and watch the games together. Hoping the Broncos would WIN so Brock would not be in a bad mood.He was proud to be an armchair quarterback for the News-Record ending the season with a 152 wins and 104 losses. He was a 10 year member of The Neil Simpson Fantasy football league with his dad. He had his best record this year 12-4 in this league. He came in third. Darn he wanted to take lst this year. Brock was quite the gambler, betting on games with his grandpa Eddie. It worked out well for Brock; if he lost he never paid. If he won, Grandpa was always reminded of his debt. Brock enjoyed visiting daily with his uncle Robbie, going to the movies (the gory, scary ones were his favorites), as well as drawing (of course) sports pictures. He also loved HATS, he had to have one he was addicted to them. (Ask his Mom). Brock also loved SHOES???they were so important to him, had to have nice shoes on????? Brock had so many special friendships and dear people who were a big part of his life. Whatever it was you did small or big it was a gift to him. You know who you are and you meant the world to him as well as Tim and Alicia. Brock will be missed by his parents of Gillette; maternal grandparents: Mary & Eddie Nelson of Spearfish S.Dak., paternal grandparents: Hulda & Bob Rogers of Deadwood S.Dak., uncles: Robbie Rogers of Thornton Colo, Matt Rogers of Rapid City S.Dak.aunts: Karen Rogers of Gillette, Renee Bridentstine, (husband Dan) of Lead, S. Dak.January Hargens (husband Gary) of Rapid City S.Dak., Nancy Heckel of Rapid City S.Dak. and Maralee Detimore (husband Bob) of Iowa and several cousins Brock was preceded in death by his grandfather Morris Heckel, & Uncle Gerald. Mom & Dad will be cheering for the the Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies, and Avalanche for you for a lifetime you were our little boy and we will always love you. You can now Drive! Your mom says you can! Fly with the Angels, Go Fast, Slow down, but always be with us. We love you??.Memorials are suggested to benefit the Shriner?s Hospital or John Paul II Catholic School.
