Graveside Committal of Ashes for Clifford Sam Roberts, Age 84, of Gillette, will be held at 10:30am on January 20, 2007 at Mt Pisgah Cemetery, Gillette, WY. The American Legion will provide military honors for this decorated WWII veteran.Cliff passed away at his home on December 30, 2006 of complications of a heart condition. He was born on February 5, 1922 to Tommy and Maggie ( Casey) Roberts in Elijah, Missouri where he later attended school. Cliff served in th US Army in the European Theater during WWII. His unit received the Presidential Unit Citation with One Oak Leaf Cluster for their service with the 101st Airborne during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his discharge, Cliff worked in various jobs unitl he settled on the oil field. He worked as a tool pusher and drilling superintendent both in the Intermountain Region and in South America. After his retirement he continued working in maintenance for the city of Fleming CO. He retired again when he moved to Gillette, WY where he worked as a school crossing guard and in the city maintenance shop. Cliff was know as a gentle and kind man. Over the years Cliff volunteered more than 800 hours for the Senior Citizens Center. He preformed with the Honolulu Honeys and danced the chicken dance as fundraisers for the center. Over the last years of his life, his niece, Bea Sleeth cared for Cliff.Cliff is survived by his children: Clifford (Beverly) Roberts, Judy (Gary) Stolba both of Missouri, Carol (Ken)Boone of Springfield, MO , Leilani (Bob) Malisch of Plankton, SD, Jerilee Roberts of St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, and James Dawm of Reno, NV, 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and his sister, Ina Jones of Stafford, MO. He is preceded in death by his parents and three of his children: Rocky, Patty, and Bonney.
