A Memorial Service for John W. Butcher, 75 of Golden Valley, AZ, formerly of Gillette, WY will be held at Stevenson Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 11:00 am. His son-in-law Virgil Dowell will preside. Burial of Ashes will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Gillette. Mr. Butcher passed away in Kingman, AZ of medical complications on October 16, 2006. John was born to Gerald R. and Margie A. (Barlean) Butcher on August 12, 1931 in Gillette, WY. He graduated from Campbell County High School in 1948. He attended the University of Wyoming where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His career started with Standard Oil as an engineer in Wyoming. In 1955 he took his young family to Tulsa, OK where he attended the University of Tulsa night law school and earned his LLB. He practiced law as a patent attorney for many years. He also used his skills as advisor and attorney for family and friends throughout the years. Later, John took his family to Colorado to farm 7000 acres of dry land wheat. His later life included lobbying the Wyoming Legislature for the Wyoming Independent Producers Association, buying and selling real estate, consulting for Petro-Log Industries of Casper, WY, building log homes and collecting heavy equipment. He loved sailing and went yearly to the British Virgin Islands where he kept a 38? Beneteau sailboat. In 1969 John married Judith Baker of Chicago, IL. They blended their families and together had one daughter. John was a man of many talents and interests. He accomplished much in his 75 years. He was loved and appreciated by his family and friends and will be missed by all. John is survived by his wife, Judith, 5 children: Brenda (Virgil) Dowell of Portland, OR, John Richard ?Dick? Butcher of Littleton, CO, Jeri (Michael) Sandlian of Littleton, CO, Jody (Rodney) Dufour of Frederick, CO, and Jean Grissom of Denver, CO, 14 grand children, Todd Hopkins, Marc Hopkins, Angie Gilchrist, Jenni Patterson, Jonathan Dowell, Megan Salvador, John Ryan Butcher, Daniel Butcher, Jacob Butcher, Travis Wagner, Josh Sandlian, Ashlie Dufour, Rodney John (RJ) Dufour II, and Anthony Grissom, 6 great grand children, Maisie Patterson, Mia Hopkins, Ryan Hopkins, Quintyn Salvador, Aaliyah Salvador, and Marcus Sandlian, and two brothers Joe (Carol) Butcher of Casper, WY, and Dean (Marilyn) Butcher of Arvada, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerald ?Jerry? and Barney.
