Ed Bills was born in Walters, Oklahoma, on April 6, 1924 to John Edand Nina (Ball) Bills. Hub grew up and went to school in Walters, Oklahoma. During his 9th grade year of school he had to go to work on his family?s cotton farm to help support his family of fifteen. A few years later Hub and his twin brother left for Washington to work in a shipyard for a short period of time. They then both moved home and decided to enlist into the Navy together. Due to Hub being color blind, he joined the Army. He and his twin brother were separated for the first time. Hub was a frontline Medic during World War II and landed on Omaha Beach with the 2nd wave of the invasion of D-Day. Hub was a reluctant Hero. He received many medals but always placed the fallen soldiers as heroes, and said, ?I just did my job.? In 1945, Hub was honorably discharged from the Army and returned home to Oklahoma. After spending some time with his family, Hub left for Hobbs, New Mexico, and went to work as a mason. Hub saved some money and hitch hiked to Rangely, Colorado and worked on the oil rigs. While working in Trinidad, Colorado, he met Rose Marie Martinez. On October 9, 1947, Hub and Rose Marie were married in Raton, New Mexico. Following their marriage, they moved to Edgerton, Wyoming, and started their family. While moving throughout Wyoming, their family grew to seven children. Finally they moved back to Gillette and set down solid roots. Hub lived in Gillette since 1963.Hub loved his family more than anything else in the world. He enjoyed his horses and spending time outdoors. He looked forward to his yearly hunting trip in the Jackson Hole area. Hub never missed any important dates or graduations of his grandchildren.
