Funeral services for Mary Scobee will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, September 29, 2006 at the Westside Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, Wyoming. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home.Mary Scobee, age 92, of Gillette, Wyoming died on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of complication of Alzheimer?sMary was born Mary Vera Freshwater on September 1, 1914 in Downing, Missouri to Francis Allen and Edna Sina (Stice) Freshwater. She attended school in Schuyler County, Missouri and married Ross Ray Saulsbury on November 14, 1932. They farmed in Missouri and raised 3 sons and 2 daughters, Donal Lee, Ronald Ray, Larry Leon, Jerol Dean and Judy Ann. The family later moved to Illinois where Ross worked in the coal mines for 7 years. They returned to Missouri due to Ross? failing health. He passed away in July of 1961.Mary worked at the soda fountain at the local drug store, and also at the hospital during the early nineteen sixties. She married Ray Scobee in 1962. They farmed near Greencastle, Missouri and then moved to town until the time of his death in 1978.She moved to Moorcroft, Wyoming in 1979. She began working as the librarian aide at the Moorcroft High School in 1980 where she was later honored as the Employee of the Older Worker Week due to both her age and her enthusiasm for her work with the younger people and patrons of the library.In 1987, she moved to Gillette, Wyoming and began working at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. In 1991, Mary was honored as the ?Oldest Senior Employment Services Employee.? She worked in the therapy department, as a beauty shop assistant and a transportation aide, and even helped the residents at meal time. She never seemed to slow down and was often asked ?Isn?t it awful to get old?? her response was ?I wouldn?t know!?. Mary was over 75 at the time and probably several years the senior of some of the residents at the manor!Along with Ross, Mary raised her children in a Christian home, singing hymns, learning scripture, praying and reading the Bible. She taught all of her children the importance of doing a job right the first time, regardless of how small the task. She accepted the Lord as her Savior in Edinburg Baptist Church in rural Missouri after her daughters began going to church there. She has been a member of Westside Baptist Church in Gillette for several years.Mary?s hobbies included spending time with her family and pets, playing cards, cooking, baking, canning, gardening, fishing, bowling, playing the piano, singing, and dancing. She was still sharing her gift of hospitality by baking her famous pies and cinnamon rolls up until she turned 85.Mary is survived by 4of her children, 15 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, 1 brother, 2 sisters, and 1 son and 1 grandson.Mary always brought a smile to the face of those she knew and will be remembered with great fondness.
