Memorial service for Vala Jean Riley will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 26, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Gordon Harper of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church. A reception will follow the memorial service at the Moose Lodge in Gillette, Wyoming.Vala Riley, age 61, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away on Monday, June 19, 2006 in Fargo, North Dakota of complications from spinal meningitis.Vala was born on December 7, 1944 the daughter of Walter and Betty (Fox) Nordholm in Moline, Illinois. She was raised in Silvis, Illinois and graduated from United Township High School in 1962. Vala married Earl Duayne Riley on September 5, 1964 in Moline, Illinois. The couple then moved to Eldon, Iowa and eventually settled in Gillette, Wyoming. Vala?s primary focus was raising her kids and caring for her family. When her kids grew older she went to work for Alco discount store for 10 years. Vala then worked for Campco Credit Union for over 10 years as a loan officer until her retirement in January of 2003. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, gardening, baking, camping and fishing with her husband, watching the Camel?s Basketball team and spending time with her family. Vala especially loved spending her summers at their home in Minnesota with her family. Her greatest love was watching her grandchildren play. Vala is survived by her husband; Earl Duayne Riley of Gillette, Wyoming, son; Darrin (Claire) Riley of Keller, Texas, daughter; Marcy (Danny) Hoekstra of Gillette, Wyoming, brothers: Walter (Sharon) Nordholm Jr. of Colona, Illinois, Wilford (Lucy) Nordholm of Ottertail, Minnesota, Gerald (Moya) Nordholm of East Moline, Illinois, Larry (Mary) Nordholm of Colona, Illinois and Dale (Jeanne) Nordholm of Minneapolis, Minnesota, sisters: Betty (Ray) Kopatich of Hampton, Illinois and Gayla Spencer of Warsaw, Missouri, 4 grandchildren: Chelsea and Shalayna Hoekstra of Gillette, Wyoming, Hayden and Nolan Riley of Keller, Texas.She was preceded in death by her parents.Memorials and condolences may be sent in Vala?s name to Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home 210 W. 5th Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or via the internet at www.stevensonandsons.com.
