Funeral services for Frank Carle Temple will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Gillette, Wyoming, with the Rev. Ginny Bettendorf, officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment, with military honors, will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.Frank C. Temple, age 85, died Monday, May 29, 2006 at his home in Gillette, Wyoming of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Temple was born September 1, 1920, to Horatio L. and Hazel D. (Carle) Temple, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He attended schools in Benton Harbor, graduating in 1938. In school he was active in marching band and a dance band, playing saxophone and clarinet. Mr. Temple served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in 1942. He was a radio mechanic in a fighter squadron in the Pacific Theater, stationed at Iwo Jima, and participated in the air offensive of Japan. He received several Asian Pacific medals and was honorably discharged in 1946. On July 3, 1948, he married Frances L. White in Benton Harbor. They resided in Riverside, Michigan while Frank worked at the Whirlpool Corporation in St Joseph, Michigan for 33 years, retiring in 1979. They were members of the First United Methodist Church of Riverside. After retirement, they spent many years wintering in central Florida and summers visiting family in Wyoming, moving to Gillette in 1996. Mr. Temple enjoyed hunting and fishing as a younger man, and was a life long sports fan, supporting the Benton Harbor Tigers, University of Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, Gillette Sage Valley Eagles, Edge Soccer, South Gillette ASA Softball, and the Campbell County Camels. He loved to travel in the Big Horn Mountains and the Black Hills, visit Deadwood monthly, walk and have coffee at the Rec Center, watch his grandchildren?s activities, and spend time with his family. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gillette and the American Legion.Mr. Temple is survived by his wife, Frances, of 57 years, daughter Carolyn S. (David) Hagen, son Gary L. (Belle) Temple, grandchildren Shondra R. and Steven M. Temple, and Kyle C. Hagen, all of Gillette. He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Gillette American Legion Post 42 Scholarship Fund.
