Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #42.Mr. Calvin Eugene Tholson, age 82, died at his family ranch in Rozet, Wyoming on April 14, 2006 of natural causes. His life began when he was born to Ted and Kittie Tholson in Gillette, Wyoming on December 21, 1923. He was raised and educated on a ranch South of Rozet. His fondest memories of his childhood were of riding his first horse ?Bunker? to school and playing on the Rozet High School Basketball Team. He graduated from High School in 1942 and joined the Army towards the end of World War II. While in the Military he served in China, India and Burma as a communications operator and codebreaker. The highest military rank he achieved was that of Sergeant. After he was discharged from the military he returned to government service and took several overseas assignments, the majority of which were in the Philippines, Germany and Australia. While on assignment in the Philippines, he met his wife Sophie Danilewicz in Manila. They were married on July 23, 1955 in Bakersfield, California. In a previous interview Calvin said that the day he married Sophie was the greatest day of his life. After they were married Sophie left her government job and supported Calvin in his many assignments. They retired from government service in 1973 to live in Northfield, Massachusetts near Sophie?s childhood home. They lived a private and quiet life for 22 years until Sophie?s passing last December. In his final months, Calvin came home to Rozet where family came together to help and support him. Calvin?s sister-in-law JoAnn Tholson provided some words about her departed brother-in-law and wife, ?Calvin and Sophie went many places and did more in his life than most people ever dream about.?Some of the fascinating things of which Calvin took interest in during his life include the collecting of rocks and Native American arrowheads that he found during his childhood at his family?s ranch in Wyoming. Also, when he lived in Australia he took an interest in the culture of the indigenous Aborigines. He collected many artifacts native to this culture and learned many of their rituals, of which he would insistently talk about with great enthusiasm. Calvin is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Joann Tholson of Rozet; two nieces, Jacque Gray of Rozet and Sue White of Douglas; and nephew, Dan Tholson of Casper and many great nieces and nephews. Calvin was preceded in death by his wife Sophie, his mother and father, and niece Sherri Stetson. Memorials may be sent to Sharon?s Home Health. Condolences may be sent in Calvin?s name to Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home 210 W. 5th Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or via the internet at www.stevensonandsons.com.
