Funeral services for LaVerne Cook will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 10, 2006 at Stevenson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Jim McConnell of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2006 at Stevenson Funeral Home. LaVerne Littleton Cook, age 89, of Gillette, Wyoming died Monday, April 3, 2006 at Pioneer Manor of natural causes.Laverne was born February 8, 1917 the daughter of Scott and Mildred (Littleton) New in Perdy, Oklahoma. She was raised and educated in Gillette, Wyoming graduating from Campbell County High School with normal training in 1936. Upon graduating she taught in rural Wyoming schools for some time. On April 9, 1939 LaVerne married Cecle Cook in Deadwood, South Dakota. Due to Cecle?s employment the couple lived in Sundance, Wyoming, Keyport and Poulsbo, Washington and Acme & Riverton, Wyoming. In 1949 the couple made their home in Gillette, Wyoming where they have resided since. LaVerne was dedicated homemaker, raising the children and caring for her family. LaVerne served on the Campbell County Election Board for many years, actually hosting many elections in her home. When the children went to school LaVerne worked at Gambles, Hesteds, the Newsrecord and The Quality Dress Shop. Mrs. Cook was also a sixty-five year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and Campbell County Homemakers. She was also a member of the Senior Center. LaVerne enjoyed sewing and handicrafts, porcelain doll making, oil and china painting and ceramics.Mrs. Cook will be missed by her husband of sixty-six years, Cecle, 1 son, Dean B. and wife Juanetta Cook of Newbury Park, California, 2daughters: Kathleen and husband Steve Wheeler of Belen, New Mexico and Sandra and husband Gary Howard of Portland, Oregon, 1 brother, John and wife Mae New of Seattle, Washington, 1 sister, Blanche Willard of Gillette, Wyoming, 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her parents and 7 siblings: Bernice New, Elmo New, Leo New, Rex New, Alice Bates, Lynn Elder and Bessie Dollard.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to benefit the Shriners Children?s Hospital.
